Philosophy & History of Our Flight School

Alexandria Field, Inc. offers flight training under the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) part 61.  The airfield has always had a flight school with no interruption since the field was opened in 1944.

In the early days many of the young male students that learned to fly said they got their start by trading flight time for working on the Frtische farm.  Airline pilots stated, “They were saved from working in the mill” and praised Mr. Fritsche for holding a vision for them that they were not capable of seeing for themselves.

To this day the basic philosophy of the flight training program is to “grow pilots” by teaching men and women the personal value of the learning process.  Many of our students go on to become professional pilots.  And many of our new generation of pilots both male and female use flying to enhance their personal lifestyles; buying their own aircraft and using flying to expand their lives.

At N85 your training is managed by a team.  Good certified flight instructors (CFI’s) are part of the team that makes the learning experience fun and safe.  Others not so obvious are the mechanics who service the aircraft and the dispatchers scheduling your lessons;  those who manage the facilities runways, approaches and traffic; those who review and select new training materials; and those who supply support and encouragement when the “adult learning process” has reached a barrier.  Our goal is to teach the individual in a flexible manner allowing students with full time jobs and families to reach their goals at their own pace.
